Tournament Rules

The Tournament is sanctioned by Hockey Alberta, sanction number HA-22360262 and will be governed by Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta rules. Player amateur registration cards (Hard Cards) or your team’s league registration form is required, if player authenticity should be challenged by any competing tournament team or the Tournament Committee. Affiliate Players (“AP”) must be part of the registration cards.

All games will be 3, 20-minute stop time periods with floods following each period.

Ties after regulation in round robin games will have a 5-minute 3-on-3 overtime (time permitting) and will be scored as a tie if no goal occurs in the overtime period. Overtime in Sunday games will be 10 minutes, 3-on-3, followed by a 3-player shoot if necessary.

In shootouts, each of the 3 players selected will shoot in alternating fashion with the winner being the team with more goals. If tied after 3 shooters, teams must elect different shooters from the previous 3 and shoot in an alternating, sudden death format. No shooters may be reused until all players have shot. The home team will select to shoot first or second.

Round robin points will be awarded as follows:

Win - 3 Points

Win in OT - 2 Points

Loss in OT or Tie - 1 Points Loss – 0 points

Tiebreaking in standings will be determined by:

1. Winner of head to head game

2. Fewest Goals Against

3. Highest Provincial Formula (GF/(GF+GA)) with a maximum 6 goal differential

4. Fewest Penalty Minutes

5. Coin Toss

On Sunday, the top two teams in each pool will play in semi-finals. The two winners of these games will play in the championship game.

Pre-game warm-up will be 5 minutes. Any team unable to start play 10 minutes after the schedule start time will forfeit the game and the non-forfeiting team will win the game with a score of 1-0 and 3 points awarded.

The tournament committee will provide all game sheets, scoresheet labels and warm-up pucks. All games will be attended by CHA certified and registered officials. The team listed first on the schedule is home and will wear light jerseys, second team listed is visitor and will wear dark jerseys. Each team is required to provide one volunteer per game for the penalty bench.
